Selecting a blue shade in the color wheel triangle?

Postby structuremania » Fri May 16, 2014 12:56 am

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to vector programs and especially Inkscape, and this might be a silly question. But anyway, I'm having an issue with the blue part of the color wheel and triangle. When I rotate the point of the color triangle to the blue lower left third or so of the color ring, the shade selector inside the triangle won't move.

Rotating the triangle to anywhere else on the ring makes it possible to move the shade selector again.

Am I missing something?

Hello:

There are other forms of selecting a color on Inkscape

Please read here, maybe it will clarify a little what you want:

Thanks, hulf2012--that page definitely helped me understand the Inkscape fill and stroke system better, and I'm now more comfortable using the other methods of coloring!

Maybe I just need to be more flexible in how I choose and adjust colors--but I do wish I could use the full functionality of the wheel for blue colors or understand what I'm doing wrong, because the wheel is so nice for quick coloring.

From a previous doscussion:

I'd try to drag anywhere in the triangle, rather than trying to drag the little dot... let the dot follow your mouse pointer.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

Hello,
I have to say that I don't use that way to select colors. But I tried to follow your instructions, and I don't see any bug. You select the "value" in the ring, and the "shade" with the white ring that it's inside the triangle. You could also drag that white circle, or just with a single left click.
I'm using Inkscape v0.48 on win7

Thanks, hulf and tylerdurden, for your suggestions--it's also good to hear that the color wheel isn't necessarily the preferred way of selecting colors among experienced users, so I don't necessarily feel so limited by this hiccup, whatever the problem may be.

By the way, I'm also using Inkscape v0.48 on win7, the 64-bit Partha build.

I uploaded a little 20-second video to Photobucket to show how the selector only refuses to move when I'm on the blue area of the ring:

*edited to correct "Parnatha" to "Partha".

Yup. Looks like a bug.

I cannot reproduce the issue on my version, so it may only be the 64bit.

Ah, alright. Thanks for checking it out and letting me know!

By the way, this little issue definitely won't put me off using this awesome program. Perhaps like fruit, the sweetest programs may have a rotten spot! :)

Edit: I switched to the official Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939 32-bit version--it works fine on 64-bit Windows 7, it's faster, and it does not have the problem I described earlier.
