Finally printed a file I have been working on and the text (one short line) did not print. What I tried to do to fix it:
- changed font color - did not print
- changed font style - did not print
- printed previous file with text - no problem
- added new text and positioned it right on top of text that is not printing- no problem with new text
I, obviously, touched something while this text was selected, but I don't know what. As far as I can tell, everything in the file is in Layer 1.
Any suggestions??? Thanks!

Re: Text not printing - what did I do?
You did not mention what format you used for printing.
If anything else than inkscape svg, you might have a flowed text that did not print.
You can turn it to a "normal" one by pressing Shift+Alt+W when it's selected.
If you used eps, maybe some transparency issues?
Anyway for printing material, to avoid any problems from the texts, turn them to outlines
by pressing Shift+Ctrl+C when they are selected.

Re: Text not printing - what did I do?
Thanks for the speedy response, Format is inkscape svg.... Your post gave me an idea - saved as PDF and tried to print - still no text.
No "alt key" on my Mac... Shift ctrl C did not help.... hmmmmmm

Originally the flowed text to non-flowed text is under text menu
and the object to path option is in the paths menu.
If it still doesn't work, what else can it be.
Is that layer visible? And the text too? No alpha given?

Re: Text not printing - what did I do?
OK... found the unflowed text and applied.... still did not print. Text does show up on my "print preview" - it also prints from there. Not sure what you mean by "no alpha given". Text is on the same layer as graphics... when I toggle "visible" from the little eye at the bottom of the screen, everything disappears... I am just stumped!

I meant by that the fill has an alpha value other than 255 or a transparency value of the text object less than 100%.
Did you try to convert the text to path?

Re: Text not printing - what did I do?
Changing the style and/or colors of text shouldn't make a difference. The actual font can make a difference though, not all print out correctly.
Here's something else to try: Actually, I would start from scratch, delete your text totally, and start fresh, copy your text, then place the original on a separate layer (so you always have it), and hide that layer. Ok, now take the copied text and change it to a path, then try to print. Printing can be difficult in Inkscape anyway, you'll notice that colors aren't true typically, etc, so (at least for me), printing anything, and esp. text, is always a challenge.
Also, is there anything underneath the text?
Another tip: I find that printing works best when I export the bitmap to GIMP, then convert it to a jpg, then print.
If everything else fails, It might help if you could attach the svg here, then some of our experts can better help.
good luck.

Re: Text not printing - what did I do?
Sorry for my delayed response to your replies, Lazur and flamingolady. I think my brain got lost at "alpha value" and "transparency value". The bottom line here is I can easily delete, re-enter and print the text with no problem. In fact, although I have noticed the color differences when printing graphics, I print almost everything I create with Inkscape! This quirk of text not printing was something that has never happened and wanted to know what caused it so I could fix it if it ever happened again. Many thanks for your suggestions, but alot of this is way over this "non-techie's" head!
