I'm actually hoping to start a discussion on peoples experiences with Inkscape, XQuartz, and the new operating system Apple just announced. I know right now you have to be a registered developer to have the beta, but I'm hoping someone who has installed 10.11 on their mac has tried using Inkscape and could talk about their experiences.
I would love to participate in the public beta when it's available next month, but I'd hate to loose the use of my inkscape.
Anyways, hopefully someone with direct experience will be able to comment on this.

Well you seem to have a different issue than the person who started this topic. There's something about the new Apple system that's causing problems for Inkscape. Since I don't use a Mac, I haven't paid close attention. But if you'll search the forum, maybe using a broader search than "El Capitan" you'll probably find a message telling you the solution. Or else, I'm sure a Mac user will be along to either explain it, or give you the link to the answer, before too long.

Yeah ! Thank you. In fact, I tried different ways.
No, double-clic does not work. Nor open Inkscape from the dock.
But simple click on Inkscape, than "open file" works !
And simple click an Inkscape-made-file, than "open with Inkscape", too.
So, no problem yet. And thank you all. Hopefully it works on other El Capitan Macs too.

Re: Inkscape and Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan
Works flawlessly with El Capitan!
Before installing Inkscape, I first downloaded the newest version of XQuartz 2.7.8, installed it, logged out, then logged back in (something about making XQuartz 2.7.8 the default instead of old X11 so Inkscape will run properly in El Capitan).
Installation of Inkscape v.91 then went perfectly on my iMac running El Capitan 10.11.1
Be advised the first time you open Inkscape it may take several minutes to build font libraries into XQuartz, so don't interrupt it -- go make coffee.
Inkscape looks the same, runs the same -- I'm able to create/save/edit new documents, and open/edit/save Inkscape documents created years ago.
Using the dock to launch Inkscape works fine for me, and so does double-clicking on files to open them.
Now I'll go find the Inkscape project donation page to say thank$ to the developers.

@ArtFirst: Is there any indication that Inkscape is actually starting up? I clicked the icon and nothing seems to be happening. The icon is not bouncing, no dot underneath, and no Inkscape windows open. I've been waiting at least 15 minutes.

Not working here:
When I open an SVG, it loads for a couple of seconds, the window opens fpr milliseconds and vanishes.
I can click on the Inkscape Icon in the dock, but the Menu Bar switches to XQuartz. Inkscape is dead afterwards.

This sounds exactly like the behaviour I experienced. For me, it was because XQuartz (2.7.9) apparently has some difficulty supporting multiple monitors on El Capitan 10.11. I unplugged my second monitor, and Inkscape worked just fine.
Another interesting symptom: I was able to get Inkscape to launch from the command-line (type
