How can I give an eps image a transparent background?

Postby jboss1995 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 7:20 am

When I open a svg file and save it as a eps it putts a white background. Even if there is no background. I run linux and have GS install. This question has been asked but thought I would see if anyone might knows. thanks in advance.

EPS doesn't support transparency, so it's not possible.

Files saved from Inkscape as EPS opens fine transparent in Photoshop or placed in Indesign.
But Inkscape can't open any EPS
In OS X you can open an EPS in Preview and save as PDF and then import into Inkscape, handy if you need to use something that comes as EPS.
Today SVG and PDF are probably more used, EPS was used more 10-15 years ago.

I use Linux and it will bolt open eps and save eps. however when it saves it replaces the transparent background with a white.
