Creating PDF from inkscape

Postby c.robinson » Tue May 11, 2010 1:43 am

Hi,

I'm currently using inkscape to manipulate PDFs from GIS into the image I require. My problem is that when I have finished creating the image and save as a PDF the image that is saved is only a partial image of what I had created. I would like to know why this occurs and what I can do to rectify the problem?

Many Thanks

Christina.

Unfortunately, Inkscape is not capable of converting everything it's capable of drawing, to PDF. There are several messages about this issue in our forums, if you'd like to do some searching. I've just started writing a tutorial that needs to be in PDF form, and another Open Source program called Scribus has been recommended for me. Basically, you do your images and/or text in Inkscape, or you can do your text in a text editor, and then you combine everything in Scribus. (And if memory serves, it can handle spreadsheets as well, although I'm not positive.) From what I've seen so far, it can do literally any layout you want. I'm definitely impressed with it, although still have much to learn. It's definitely worth looking into, imo.
