Separate objects and join them in different shapes

Postby jasspenguin » Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:59 am

This is my actual scenario.
Image
These "shapes" are instead 7 separate objects (one whole object for each color) but I need to move separate shapes, not color. How I do solve this?

I had the same problem with the "ink" layer, which was a whole path before I did use [shift]+[ctrl]+[K] > selected and [ctrl] each "shape" and now works correctly:

Also it would be perfect if I could then "group" each shape object (color) with accordingly path (ink).

Sorry for my bad english :(

Hello there,

You can group object together by pressing Ctrl+G when they are selected.

If you drew the fill and the outline on different layers, then you will have to put every object onto the same layer.
Inkscape is much based on the svg specification, which doesn't have layers, thus
the trick used in the document is creating layers as groups.
This makes it impossible to group together objects from different layers I assume.

Hello Lazur, thanks for the reply... as for my svg....
Sorry, looks like I didn't make myself clear. :( My problem is not to group the object as they are.

But "how" they are actually. See, currently the svg think that each color is a whole object (in opposite to my desired result: every object should be a shape that contain different colors)

When I do try to move an "object" the whole "color" among all the shapes move as well... so grouping has no effect on the shape... but the whole image.

On the first image you posted the status bar says you selected seven groups, on the colors layer.
You can ungroup them by pressing Shift+Ctrl+G.
After that they can still be together for some reason: they may be groups, or a combined path.

So Shift+Ctrl+G and Shift+Ctrl+K can make those object separated hopefully,
but as described above, you cannot group each part together, unless they are on the same layer.
-You have your fill shapes on the "colors" layer, and the outlines on the "ink" layer.
