I've been playing around with this of late.
It amuses me that sites charge for this.
It's fairly simple to do.
I'm using a method I haven't seen here that I hope
is fairly easy to grasp as well as versatile.
I've attached an SVG file which I hope helps in the
understanding.
I use the Live "Path" Effect (Bend) / Bend Path - Edit on
Canvas (the FIRST option) to start with. That's why it's
important to use Ctrl-K (Path-Combine) rather than Ctrl-G
(Group).
Not clear in the file is that I use:
Ctrl to constrain rotation. Mirror can be used but may
not always provide the desired results. Adjust accordingly.
I also use Ctrl to constrain when adjusting Path Nodes to
more easily adjust the angle to Vertical (see attached image).
And I use Shift to adjust the bend to a more circular result.
(attached image)
Last, one of the examples includes a circle, constrained, again,
by using the Ctrl Key as a template if you will, for adjusting the
final result. Line it up with the final result and then adjust the
dimensions to match the circle.
It's really a LOT easier to do than it is to explain.
Play around with it. Have fun. And SAVE your money.
On Meander (Grecian Pattern)
Re: On Meander (Grecian Pattern)
If you're not familiar with the Bend tool, there's this:
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=5625
I find it easier than "Pattern on Path".
"Pattern on Path" locks my system up.
Even on another system when it worked, I wasn't getting the
desired results.
Bend, for me, is just easier, more straightforward.
Your results may vary.

Re: On Meander (Grecian Pattern)
Hi and welcome to the club !
There are a ton of images out there you can buy. I dont think it has much to do with how easy or hard it is to create. Some people will just rather buy a file instead of making one. Maybe its quicker, or they dont have the skill or time.
Unfortunately this market is also pretty saturated. I recently googled for a goldfoil texture, because making goldfoiltext is in fashion at the moment, and there was an abundance of offers. Just have a look at etsy for example.
I guess its is a good opportunity for designers to make a few extra bucks.
If you have a look at this link, you can see that we were playing with the meander pattern in the past. I think that was one of my first posts

I like your spiral design a lot and thanks for the tutorial !

Re: On Meander (Grecian Pattern)
Yeah, I saw the other tutorial. Some of it is in reference to "Pattern on Path". That's what I was
speaking to. One post mentions using Transform and LPE, but not "Bend" explicitly.
I think that post also references "Pattern on path".
Re: commercial patterns, it may just be that some don't have the time or the ability. Not really
being critical of them for that. Just offering alternatives.
In that light, I'm adding a couple SVGs based on other ideas I've seen.
One, the border, just takes a spiral, converts it to a path, and changes the nodes from curve to
straight. After that, some mirroring, copying, adjusting the edges to match up, rotating and
closing all the open points.
The other is just two spirals one mirrored against the other then, lined up, copied and LPE
bent into a circular pattern.
Fun stuff.
Once you figure it out, there's just a lot of possibillites.
Enjoy.

I'm also hoping that if I show folks how to do the simple stuff, it'll spur the designers
with MUCH better skills than I on to more challenging designs.
Kind of the, if you can't win the race, make the person who beats you break the record
principle.
