The Effects Swirl and Wave

Postby ChaosOutlaw » Sun Mar 01, 2009 3:04 am

I am using this program to make tribal tattoo designs. I cannot get the effects swirl or wave from the effects/raster menu to work. I have tried using it on drawn lines, various star formations and on various rectangle shapes. I push the apply button and nothing happens. I am using Inkscape 0.46 on my pc running Windows XP. Could really use some help.

Turn the objects to paths before applying the effects, it's under Path > Object to Path.

Yeah that didn't work but thanks for trying :) The lines and bezier curves are already paths and when I converted a few star shapes and rectangles it did nothing.

I'm sorry the word Raster kinda slipped out while reading your post.

You can only apply Raster effects to raster formats (.jpg .png .gif), you can't apply them to vector objects.

If you want to whirl (or do other deformations to) your Inkscape objects look under Modify Path category of Effects, or any other than Raster ;)

Ok now that worked. Kind of bogus that I am gonna have to convert my shape(s) to pdf, bring it into photoshop 7, convert and save it to the proper extension and then bring it back into inkscape just to use it lol. Oh well, its making some pretty cool shapes that I can't do in Photoshop, and was free. Thanks much prkos, I appreciate your help :)

No need to export and reimport just do make bitmap copy

and you can find that option under Edit > Make a Bitmap Copy (Alt + B)

I assumed you wanted to create vector drawings because you use Inkscape, but if you're only interested in raster editing maybe you should look into GIMP, although Inkscape is a bit easier to learn and the raster effects there might be enough for you :)
