Strange Artefacts in Lasercutter Extension

Postby nexus77 » Fri Apr 29, 2016 1:41 am

Hello, i experience a issue with the Lasercutter Extension inside Inkscape. It draws artefacts which appear as half-circles inside the laser software (see screenshots)

The issue occurs on different drawings i made and i see no connection or reason why it happens. I could also upload a svg file if that helps.

Any input is apreciated as this bugs me for a while and there a files i really would like do get done without artefacts.

Do you mean the GCode tools extensions or the one that is in the Extensions -> Export submenu? If it's the latter, please head over to the authors website: https://www.timewasters-place.com/

I believe there is an updated version available somewhere, too.

Yes, please tell us specifically which extension you used. And if you downloaded it, please give us the link where it camed from. (There are lots of laser cutter extensions around!)

Your 2 JPGs look identical to me. They are both from inside Inkscape. Usually we need to see the SVG file, instead of screenshots. But in this case, unless some of us actually has a lasercutter, we probably will not be able to test. Maybe you should attach it anyway, though. We can at least make sure there aren't any extra circles somewhere.

But there's a good chance you'll need to contact the author of the extension.

That's a fairly intricate image for a lasercutter, isn't it? It looks like it must have thousands of nodes. Maybe it depends on what kind of material is being cut. For wood, that would seem to be a very difficult image to cut.

Hi, thank you for your responses! Here is the svg:

Sorry for uploading the same screenshot twice by accident, on the bottom some more screenshots also from the laser plugin, which i do not know who made it, it came with the laser cutter.

Yes it contains many nodes, it is not intended to be cut out, i want to engrave it. The many lines are to fill certain areas (like the eyes) to make them appear black on the wood. I find it much faster to use vectors instead of the png engraving mode the laser has, which scans every line (much like a needle printer) I had the same issue on more simple files i made (for example our company logo).

This is a better example as the file is not as complex, still the same half circles appear.

SVG file:

What is strange is that all the logos are the exatly same in the svg file, (copied pasted in inkscape) still, on some the error appears an on other it does not.

@nexus77: where did you find that extension? It's not included in the default extensions that come with Inkscape, so you must have installed it from some external download some time. Your best chance of getting it fixed would be to contact the author of the extension about any errors it produces.

I think i found the issue, i deleted some points where the artefacts were, then they dissapered at those points. Still strange because i copied them so all should be the same, but i can solve it for this file. Thanks for your interest
