Create table

Postby tays01s » Tue Nov 27, 2018 7:24 am

The 1 extension for creating a table: http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape-tables/
appears not to be for OSX. Is there an extension for Macs?

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure. But I keep a list of all known (external) extensions on this page: https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php

In the Extensions section (bottom third of the page) and in the 3rd box, click on "Render". Then scroll down to the "Tables, Charts, Graphs, Plots" section. It looks like there's at least one other extension for making tables. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

From the About:
<snip>...
This extension is tested only on Ubuntu 11.04, but normally should
work on any platform on which Inkscape works. Being written in
Python, there shouldn't be any problem with it.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

What's with the extension that is included in Inkscape? Extensions > Render > NiceCharts.

I have (supposedly) installed the Extension (http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape-tables/) and re-launched Inkscape but can't see it within the Extensions menu.

When I run the installation I get:
Last login: Tue Nov 27 20:19:10 on ttys000
/Users/stephen/Downloads/inkscape-table-1.0/install ; exit;
Stephens-MacBook:~ stephen$ /Users/stephen/Downloads/inkscape-table-1.0/install ; exit;
/Users/stephen/Downloads/inkscape-table-1.0/install: line 3: inkscape: command not found
usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file
cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file ... target_directory
/Users/stephen/Downloads/inkscape-table-1.0/install: line 5: inkscape: command not found
/Users/stephen/Downloads/inkscape-table-1.0/install: line 5: ./install_shortcuts.py: No such file or directory
logout
Saving session...
...copying shared history...
...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.

[Process completed]

It seems to complete OK.

BTW, where is the Inkscape Extensions folder kept? Again, I've not located this in OSX.

Instructions for installing extension: https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#how-ins ... n-sets-etc

Moini, would an extension called Nice Charts make tables?

Thanks. My User Config is apparently: /Users/stephen/.config/inkscape

However, the "/.config/inkscape" part doesn't exist and OSX doesn't permit "." before a folder name.

So I'm still a bit stuck.

Oh, I apologize. Apparently that faq was written before the "User extensions" item was added to the System page, in Inkscape Preferences. So the proper file path for you will be under "User extensions". And I'll get that faq edited right away.

Edit - My bad. I misread the faq

I'm not sure what that period means, but I might be inclined to ignore it, and install the extension there anyway.

(Actually I've seen that period added to file names in my server which uses a linux system. I never have figured out what it means. But the file always exists without it too, so at least so far, ignoring it works ok.)

It's a hidden directory. Even on OS/X.

That explains why I can't see it. However, what do I do to get the Extension into the correct folder.

I assume once there Inkscape can then access it.

Sorry, I'm not on a Mac, you may need to use google or another search machine of your choice.
