hello world i have a question

Postby S3fb » Mon Sep 10, 2012 1:38 pm

Wassup everybody! i hope you are all doing awesome stuff in inkscape. mine's: http://anotherrandomaccount.deviantart.com/gallery/ anyways, here comes the question. (I've been learning inkscape by the good ol' trial and error method so if the question is stupid do apologize) is there any tool which makes it possible for two lines to be the same lenght? I'm no talking about the align/distribute tool, because it will consider the space between the nodes and make it equal too, f***ing everything up =D that's it! have a nice day!

Why would making the two lines of the same length be so hard to achieve?
Have you considered Interpolate? Or perhaps Calligraphy tool while holding Ctrl?
:tool_zoom: <<< click! - but, those with a cheaper tickets should go this way >>> :!:

Maybe an image of what your trying to archive would be useful.

If you draw one line of the proper length, and duplicate it, they will be exactly the same length. If you mean take 2 random lines that already exist, and make them automatically the same length, there's no tool or feature that will do that. There is an extension which can measure lines, but it would just be trial and error until they're they same length. If they are parallel lines, and straight, you could use Guides or a grid, and snapping. If they are curved or not parallel, I think you're out of luck, except for trial and error with measurement extension.

But we're all imagining 2 lines in our heads, and having, I'm sure, as many different scenarios, as we have heads!

Wow, I realize how vague I was! Sorrysorrysorrysorry! My problem was to get two lines from a logo's text to be identical, but the kind of waving in it (a bit like here)Image
...prevented me from using the tool you usually need, align/distribute. I really should've finished to create the font before doing the waving, but i had already saved at that time. That's my problem. (I'm impulsive) I'll be more precise in the future, sorry. I guess brynn was the closest to what i was looking for, but the trial-error is a bit counter-productive in most cases.thanks anyways to all of you to answer this sloppy question ^^

Wow! I'll be none of us was thinking lines of text, lol.

Do you mean that you need 2 lines of text to be the same length? Have you used Text on Path, and the paths are what you need to be the same length? Or the text? No, either way, for text, the Measurement extension won't....well, it might work actually, for text on path. But once we're clear about the situation, we might be able to give a much more satisfying answer.

Just because you saved the file, doesn't mean you can't go back and change something. (Unless you mean by "saved" that it's entirely out of your hands now.) If you did use Text on Path, you can simply remove the text from the path, finish the text, then put it back on the path. Or change the path length and put it back on the path. Or even better, remove text from path, delete one path, duplicate the other path, and put the text back one both. So unless I still don't understand, no trial and error will be needed :D
