How to auto-embed loaded *.jpg pictures in original size?

Postby pstein » Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:58 pm

When I drag a *.jpg picture from WinExplorer onto IS then I am always prompted if I want to embed or link the picture.

I want always embed (=I want always edit the original picture). How can I suppress the prompt for the future?

Furthermore the loaded picture is smaller then the original. It is auto-zoomed-in.

How can I tell IS to load it in the original size and (if necessary) use scrollbars to make the remaining parts visible?

How can you tell inkscape loads in smaller sized images? The pixel size should match in the top box with the actual loaded image's size. Do you measure it with a screenshoot at 100% zooming?
Or the problem is that the loaded image's resolution doesn't match with inkscape's 90 dpi?

In your preferences>bitmaps you should have the option in a dropdown menu for 'always embed/always link/ ask'. This may be dependent on the Inkscape version you are using so upgrade if it's not there.

If the picture you are importing has a resolution attached to it Inkscape will respect that resolution unless you check the box (in the preferences) 'override file resolution'. In that case it will use the default 90 PPI unless you have set a different default import resolution.
These options may also be dependent on your version number.

This feature is only available in (unstable) development builds - it is not (and won't be) available in bug-fix releases (e.g. latest 0.48.4, or planned 0.48.5) of the current stable release branch (0.48.x).

Please keep in mind: new features from the (unstable) development branch (version string: 0.48+devel) are not backported to the current stable release branch (0.48.x), and unstable development builds are not as easily available for all platforms as e.g. for Windows users (thanks to UweSch), or for Ubuntu users (via Inkscape's PPAs).

Thanks once again to ~suv for stepping in and pointing out what should have been the first thing I checked before diagnosing the problem!

The resolution question if you have to use a stable release of inkscape is only solvable by opening the image in a program that can edit the resolution and resave it with a res of 90 DPI.

As for the other I guess you'll just have to accept the slight slowdown until 0.49 comes out.
