Node tool Sculpt mode

Postby druban » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:26 am

I'm trying to change the sculpt mode from the default (1) to the straight line (0)by changing the entry in preferences.xml
..... show_handles="0"
show_outline="1"
sculpting_profile="0"
single_node_transform_handles="0".....

but the effect seems to be no different in Inkscape. Is there something else to be set?

Possibly the new node tool doesn't yet support all options from 0.47 - assuming you are trying with a development build. Did you test with 0.47?
(BTW - where did you learn about that option? - nm, found it. Still - What exactly is it supposed to do?)

some minutes later...
Just tested with both 0.47 and 0.48+devel - the new node tool indeed doesn't seem to support it (yet, hopefully ;-) ).

Always. :lol: I have been completely spoiled by the Inkscape developers habit of putting up almost completely bugfree builds! I have never had to revert to a "stable" version!

0.47? I can't remember that far back! JK :D :D

thanks for checking. It's still a really useful feature even without the choice of profiles. the straight line profile would be useful for tapering objects but there are several other ways to do that - just not as directly.

I'm not sure what you mean by "sculpt mode". I can't find anything about it in 0.47. However, I do know of a technique called sculpting nodes:

Basically you select several to many adjacent nodes, and drag one, while holding Alt. Rather than moving all at once, they move relative to each other (although that may not be a technically correct description -- just try it, to get an idea.....I found it in one of the tutorials in the Help menu).

I don't suppose this would work in the meanwhile, until sculpt mode is ready?

Sorry if my earlier comment was misleading: node sculpting does work with the new node tool in 0.48 ('Alt'+drag selected nodes) - just the (hidden) preference setting to choose one of three sculpting profiles (modes) isn't implemented yet, but works in 0.47 as described and depicted in the manual: go to Sculpting Nodes and scroll down to «A number of different “profiles” are available. …»
