changing stroke width of a Group - weirdness

Postby brynn » Mon Nov 08, 2010 5:42 am

Hi Friends,
Before version 0.48, I could assign the same stroke width to a group of paths. Now there are "issues" :P , and it's looking like a bug.

Here's a sample file for your convenience. Try to change the stroke width of the petals, as a group. Here are my observations:

- On the Stroke Style tab, the width of the group is shown as 0.00.
- Using the down arrow is impossible because it's grayed out.
- Clicking up arrow, width value stays 0.00, but on the canvas, the stroke has been reduced to something close to 0.1 or 0.2.
- Highlighting width value and typing new value, works normally.

I can change their fill all at once without problems. Also blur and change opacity. The stroke color can be changed, but not without problems.

My observations when changing the stroke color (either right-click palette, or using Stroke Paint tab):

- The stroke width value changes from 0.00 to 2.00, even though the width does not change on canvas.
- Down arrow changes value from 2.00 to 1.90, and on canvas, the actual widtch changes from 1.00 to 1.90.
- Up arrow, value changes from 2.00 to 2.10, and on canvas, width looks to be 2.10.

Can anyone confirm? Should I report this? I searched Launchpad and didn't find anything related. I'm on Windows 7, 64-bit, if it matters.
Thanks for your help :D

Edit - related note
If any 2 paths are selected, the width value is 100.00, despite what are their true widths.

Confirmed in r9797: some very odd discrepancies when assigning a stroke to a group rather than by entering the group. The group does not initially have a stroke attribute at all (reasonably, perhaps, although "mixed" would be better than "unset" or "none" if they are different, and if the strokes are all the same, then the program should recognize this and show the style).
When assigned a stroke, the XML shows the stroke for the group as exactly HALF the stroke in the fill and stroke dialog and display. This is not true for the same paths once ungrouped! To illustrate, the attached file contains two identical objects, one in a group (by itself). The XML editor succinctly shows the problem. 2.0 stroke width for one, 4.0 for the other!

Oh gosh, I don't know how I missed this
I think I rely too much on the Recent Topics list, and don't look into the forum indexes themselves. On days with a lot of new messages, a current message can get pushed off the Recent list, and I miss them. Apologies druban for not responding.

I don't know enough about coding and development to know when operating system matters to a problem. So I wanted to ask about your OS, druban, so I can make a bug report.

Also hoping ~suv will see it because of the bump up

Thanks for your help :D
