Is there a way to save Inkscape svg as PSD or PDF whilst preserving the image and filter effects? Or will they always be lost? I do not need to keep the paths, just to save the image as a PSD or PDF. When I saved it as a PDF and PNG I lost filter effects. I tried pasting it into gimp and lost parts of the image and all filter effects.
Is the only resort to get it into Photoshop and try and re-create the finished SVG look with the filters? The printer only accepts files in PSD & PDF, PNG also but it can alter the CMYK colors, so I prefer to avoid PNG.
I guess the annoying lesson for me is not to finish my work with filters in Inkscape!
Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
When I saved as PNG I lost pattern fill on one eye and not the other. It just seems so random.
Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
I got it to work better but still missing pattern fills on left eye and pattern fill next to right eye has been changed.

Please share the svg.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Try to put the pattern origin (the little cross-shaped pattern handle) inside the object.
There's a bug with the current Inkscape version that depends on the distance of this thing to the object with the pattern, resulting in incomplete patterns in pdf and png. (but there are other bugs, too - this is just one workaround).

Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
I'm not sure what is going on with dropbox, I put my file there and it has changed the font in dropbox and doesn't give the option to open with Inkscape like it did when I've done it before, just says open with internet explorer?? Can't figure out how to share it as an actual svg now..
Moini, I don't see the cross shaped pattern handle, there was one like a fat plus sign but maybe that was before I applied the fill, I'm not sure but I've zoomed right out and it's not there. I tried moving the pattern fill nodes in closer to the objects and tried exporting but the pattern fills still come up missing in both places. Both pattern fill areas only show the fine stroke (outline) with empty pattern fill.

This is what should be the link to open the svg, maybe it will work for someone else. (I don't get the option to open it in Inkscape from dropbox).

Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
I have to click Download, then Direct Download, then it offers to Open or Save (I'm on Windows).
The pattern handle that moves the pattern is a tiny X, not a plus. I don't know how this happens, but it appears there are 2 patterns associated with the 1 object. You can find that by selecting the pattern first with the Selection tool, and then switch to the Node tool. They are both just to the right of the right cheekbone (the skull's left cheek). (The tiny square handle allows you to adjust the size of the pattern, and the tiny circle handle allows you to rotate it.)
Maybe it's something to do with 2 patterns. Well, it's 2 of the same pattern, somehow... I don't understand how that can happen.
Note that I found 2 objects with pattern fills (and 1 has 2 patterns apparently, somehow), and I had to move the black object behind the skull, to see them. Maybe that's your problem why they don't seem to be showing up in the exported file? Maybe they are just covered up by the black object?

You might try a different pattern. Seems that one is funky.
I used with checkerboard for testing, no problem there.
Brynn, the two pattern handle sets you see might be the stroke in one eye having a pattern also. I deleted the strokes on the left eye hatching.

Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
Yes, I noticed there was double set of handles for one pattern! The little cross is there after all, just hard to see while working on the black background. I removed that troublesome fill and applied another one, adjusted it to get the same look as before and it worked! Appreciate all your help SO VERY much! Now to fix up the other 5 designs of this, done in different colors, they have the same issue.
Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
Works well on a Mac, except the pattern fill of spoon+fork. I exchanged them with simple gradient fills and this is what I got saving (not Print-to-file) to PDF:
Well the PDF is too large for upload so just a screenshot of it:
Cheers

Hello
First of all, thanks to the first poster for showing the artwork
I haven't read all the messages, but I think the first problem has been solved.
I'm just a big fan of graphic arts.
Just a critic or a comment: You are shadowing the skull with cross hatches, but the spoon and fork with blurring and gradients. This is just my opinion, but I think that it's a bad mixing of styles. I think that it's better all the elements use cross hatching for shadows and change of tones. Also the hatching seems very mechanical on some part of the skull, while in others looks more like "inked by hand".

Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
Polygon, I got similar results when I tried earlier, the filters on the cutlery was removed. I also notice the logo font (bottom) is altered to a different font.
Thanks for the comments hulf2012. I like the different shading on the skull and cutlery because they are two very different looking things, so I don't think they have to be the same, though some people would prefer that consistency, I agree and not like the mixing of the styles.
I had considered that ofc but I did what I liked anyway, will have to see how it goes. I don't know how many ppl will like it or be put off but I wouldn't overdo this mixing of different filters, cos, yeah could be very weird. I think the neutral colors of the cutlery make it work, even when the skull and font colors are changed because everyone knows the silvery look of cutlery. Possibly depends on what you're using it for too. I think I might play around with the hatching on the top of the head and make it diagonal like the other larger areas, instead of straight, to make it a little more consistent, thanks for pointing out about the hatching.

Re: Save SVG as PSD or PDF without losing filter effects?
I did have the fork with the same look as the spoon originally but when I changed the page background to black, the tips of the fork kept disappearing as they were a bit darker, not that dark that I would have expected it to disappear though! I played around for a while trying to change the filter/pattern but no matter what I did a bit of the tips of the fork prongs disappeared into the black background. This made the fork look smaller than the spoon and that looked very weird. I'm printing on black and with my lack of experience in all of this, I didn't want to risk it printing like that on a black t-shirt, so I made the decision to remove the filter that was causing the problem. Otherwise it looked good the way it was. I decided to keep the spoon the way it was, after changing it to look more like the fork I didn't like it. I'm inexperienced at creating art on the computer, I tried pattern fills for the first time on this.
