Converging (Distorted) Gradient

Postby heliboy89 » Tue Jul 02, 2013 1:01 pm

Hi Guys,

New to the forum here huge apologies if this has been asked already I don't know what it's called so didn't get any sensible returns on my keyword searches.

What is the best way to achieve a converging or distorted gradient in Inkscape? As the attached example shows. I guess you probably cannot do this natively but does anybody get around it with a reliable trick?

I've come from Flash/AS3 and am porting a project to JS/HTML5/CSS and figure SVG images are the best way to go.
It is a hobby not a profession so don't expect me to know too much ;)

Many thanks in advance!
Josh

Welcome aboard!

Conic gradients are not yet supported in the svg specification, so there is not a good way around.
Also there is not a perspective transformation that would transform the fill from a normal linear one to a bit conic-like.

So the options are using the interpolate extension to draw several objects on top of eachother with the right colours,
or to import it as a raster image, then clip it with the target object.
Gimp has the abilities to generate such gradients with no problem.
For screen resolution projects the second option would work better in my opinion.

Hi Lazur,

Thanks for your help! I figured something along those lines would be the case. I actually achieved the result I was after using a radial fill and stretching it into an oval then clipping the right segment of it, obviously it's not a conic fill but it is close enough to what I was going for. Thanks anyway, I'm sure I'll be around yet I got a big project on my hands!

Thanks again,
Josh
