Getting a picture inside an object

Postby nz1jvb » Fri Dec 30, 2011 5:37 am

Not sure if I can do this with inkscape, but I have an outline picture of a state. What I would like to do is be able to do is place a logo inside the state and it look like an outline picture of the state and the logo fill the inside of the state. I have done this with other programs but not sure if inkscape can actually give the effect I am looking for...So basically have one image of the state and then the separate image of the logo imposed inside the state and fill the whole inside of the state without it being distorted or anything.

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

Yes, you can do that. But before I give you instructions, I need to ask a question. Ok, and rather than describe the 2 different scenarios which your description elicits, I made a couple of quick illustrations. Which of these is more like what you want?

Thanks for the reply, it would look more like your first one, I would want to put the object inside the state and be able to have the object fill the entire state without it looking stretched or anything.

I still might not understand. Are the state picture and the logo picture in raster formats (GIF, PNG, JPG, etc.)? If so, you'll have to import them. And if the logo is in a raster format, you won't be able to enlarge it without pixelation (makes it blurry). But this would be true of all graphics programs. So if you've done it without distortion in another graphics program, then I guess the logo must not be in a raster format?

I think you are looking for this:

- duplicate outline object
- move it above your fill logo (position and movie it to top (home key) also)
- select both objects
- menu -> Object -> Clip -> Set
