Importing multiple images into one page

Postby Capt. Fred » Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:14 am

Hi everyone,

First off, I'd like to say a huge thank you to all you folks. I am an "older" fellow (over 50) and I find it amazing that I can dig around on the internet and find such a great tool as inkscape to use for free. So, Thank you!

Here is my question:

I do some engraving as a hobby and I am learning to transfer my designs to the things I am going to engrave by using transparencies. But, I can not figure out how to print a whole bunch of images onto the same transparancy. I can get several images to show up on the "sheet" in inkscape, and I can fiddle with them to get them the exact sizes and shape I need, but when I print them only the first one shows up. All the others dissapear. How do I get them all to print? I have tried using layering, and sometimes that will get the first one and the last one to print, but the others have wandered off. :(

I am using a PC. I save my designs (black and white line drawings) by scanning them, and I save them either in "my pictures" or "my documents" as bitmap images. I have no problem importing them and manipulating them, but I can't seem to figure out how to print several on one sheet. Due to the cost of the transparencies, I sure would like to be able to print 6 or 8 designs on each sheet.

Thanks!

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

Hhm, that's interesting. I would think that if the imported images (PNGs?) are all in one Inkscape document, they ought to all print. Do you have them all inside the image border?? It might be that only those that are inside the border will print.

not being sure of the steps you take to obtain your print..perhaps export to png or pdf or other suitable format before printing, which will allow you to preview the exported file before printing. that would be to say, export first, then preview exported file (outside of inkscape) and print.
also, if you haven't already, do a search in this forum on "printing".

Woo hooo! Yup, that did it. I found a menu on my printer/scanner and manually set it to PNG and that does it. It doesn't change the look of things at all, but now when I print, they are all there on one sheet.

Many, many humble thanks!
