[solved] ribbon text in Generate from path

Postby novice » Thu Jun 28, 2007 6:57 am

I have not been able to duplicate the
example in the Inkscape Manual, Generate from Path Chapter, the Text on
Path, single, stretched ribbon option. It is at the bottom of that page.

http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... omPathText

When I done all the steps, a pop up box with Python.exe comes up and
appears to be trying to turn my text object into the ribbon path, but
nothing happens. I had no problem with the Spiral and Text on Path.

Has anyone been able to do the text on path, single stretched ribbon
option. I would appreciate a step by step tutorial!!!

Just tried it and it worked as expected for me - you did convert the text to a path first? Select both paths, the text first ....only things I can think of where it might have went wrong...

Are you using the current stable build (0.45) or an SVN (development version)? I know this effect hasn't worked properly in past SVN's.

Worked fine here too...
* write text
* make path
* convert text to path
* select text then path
* apply effect with Single, Stretched and Ribbon
* done.

Thanks for the replies and especially the Two Minute Tutorial which was invaluable! I can see now what I was doing wrong. Made my day.

Sometimes reading the manual only makes sense AFTER you've struggled through a project by trial and error, or get help on a 1:1 basis in a forum. At least I know where to go with my next Inkscape hiccup.

I am posting as a guest - is there any difference between a guest and being registered?

As far as gneral communication on the forum, no. I wanted to keep the forum open to people who are unwilling to register to a forum that has limited activity.

There are some advantages to registering though. You can send and recieve private messages. You can recieve e-mail notification when someone replies to a topic you've subscribed to. And a bunch of other features. You can also enter and vote in the competitions. If you intend on being a regular visitor it's a good idea to register so we know who we are talking to. Anyone could pretend to be you if you're not registered.
