Measure tool crash

Postby draftman » Sun May 22, 2016 2:52 am

My measure tool sometimes crashes inkscape. It also leaves little lines on my drawings
Has anyone else had this problem ?
I'm running windows 7, inkscape .91 64 bit

Hhm, I haven't heard of any crashing, but the lines are just a display issue, and that is known. By "display issue" I mean that the lines are not part of your drawing. Often I can either scroll away and scroll back, or minimize the whole window, and restore, and that gets rid of the lines (until I need to use whatever tool again). Edit - Also, the lines won't show up in a saved file.

I'll search bug reports, and post what I find.

I don't see any reported bugs with the "measure" tag, that mention crashing. Let's try to gather some more info.

Is this happening in any particular file? Or has it happened in many different files? Can you share an SVG file which is having this problem (so we can test)?

Is it reproducible? Or have you noticed it happens in a predictable way? If so, please post the steps so we can try to test.

Any error messages, when it crashes?

Any more details about the crashing would be helpful.

Thanks, Brynn
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, because I've installed a few new units in inkscapes
UI and inkex. These units have been installed ever since I've downloaded inkscape .91, and I have had no problems till now. These crashes are rare so it's hard to tell what is causing them. I've tried make it crash, but with no luck.

Hm, ok. Well I'm sure you're subscribed to this topic, so you can watch for others who may reply. And beyond that, I guess all we can do is wait until you can discover some concrete info.

Unless someone else comes along who knows the answer. I have terrible luck with searching the bug tracker, and often can't even find bugs that I know are reported. So maybe someone else can find a known issue.

Maybe you should also post what these "units" are, too, since I guess they could be part of the problem. I'm a pretty low tech person, and I'm not even sure what you might be doing with the "units". Ok, I looked up "inkex". So you're talking about extensions?

If that's the case, then you'd need to see the crash happening when you use those extensions, to be able to blame them.

You know what you might want to do, since I'm starting to realize this is probably way over my head, is to post on either the Users or Development mailing list. That's where you'll find the advanced users and developers, who can help on a higher level than we can here. https://inkscape.org/en/community/mailing-lists/

@Brynn: from what I understand, draftman compiled his own Inkscape version and added some additional units to the current set of m, mm, inch, cm, px,...
