I have another problem that I have been struggling with. I was asked to try to outline a complex red shape with white, so we could put it on a red background (a potential design for a shirt for our group).
It already has a black outline, but I wanted to add another white outline outside of that. I tried changing it in the fill and stroke menu, but when I set the stroke colour, it does not look right outline in only white, and it has some weird effects (which is probably a result of how i converted it from a jpg to a svg file in the first place.) I did try duplicating the shape, setting it to pure white, and then expanding it slightly, but that didn't work either.
We do have a fallback plan to either change the shirt colour, or to put it on a white circle, but I was asked to try to see if I could make this work first.
Attached is the svg of the object I'm trying to outline (a gryphon)

Re: Outlining complex and angled objects.
You can use the red filled path's duplicant to achieve a white border.
Either by dynamic offsetting or by adding a thick white stroke.
To duplicate, press Ctrl+Shift+D, to move object to the bottom press End.
In the attached svg objects were ungrouped first, brown parts set to be black.
Could take quite a while to clean up the details.

Re: Outlining complex and angled objects.
I thought I had tried doing that... Ok, maybe check my logic here to make sure I understand the lesson.
What I needed to do was ungroup the image, select the layer that was just the plain red fill, duplicate that, and change the stroke style to white, and significantly thicker on just that layer, and then center it up and re-group?

Re: Outlining complex and angled objects.
Bucket tool again (blue), over a yellow rectangle with a shrink of 25px to get a boundary, then I'd fill the boundary with white... a bit fiddly, but works. Then cleanup the interior of the white object and move to back.

delete blue and yellow, of course
