You can copy between 2 Inkscape documents that are opened as the same Inkscape instance. You should open the first document, and then use File > Open in that Inkscape to open the other document (or create new file).

This has been fixed in development version.

Hi,

I have the same problem.
When I use the suggested way, via File - > Open, Inkscape opens it in a new Instance.
What can I do?
(I can't change the version, as I do not have the admin rights on this machine.)

Thanks,

Maik

yes, I tried it again and it worked with one svg.
I also found another way, which is using the import function and an separate layer.
