Gradient error?

Postby plasticbag » Thu Jul 07, 2011 11:12 pm

Every time i copy gradient object it will copy the color on gradient color list too. its very annoying. is there a way to turn it off? if i want to copy the same gradient color i just use duplicate function

Do you mean you don't want to end up with 2 gradients when you duplicate objects? You want to have 2 objects but one gradient applied to both?

There is a setting in Inkscape Preferences under Misc - Prevent sharing of gradient definitions. Turn it off so duplicated objects inherit the gradient from the original object.

Is this what you asked about?

The only other thing besides what prkos says that I can think of is to group the objects together first, then apply one gradient to the entire group, though if you ungroup the objects, they will have individual gradients. Not quite sure if that is what you are asking though.

Lol, the way I read it, plasticbag does NOT want to share gradients. But either way, the setting prkos mentioned will do the trick :D

its not about sharing its like if you have like 500 objects with same gradient +1000 other gradient then list of gradient gets toooooo long

So I'm still not clear. Do you want the gradient to be shared with those potential 500 objects or not? Either way, in Inkscape Preferences, as prkos mentioned, you can change that behavior.

As for the list of gradients, there will be an item in the list for every object that uses a gradient, any gradient. So whether you share gradients or not, there will still be potentially 500 items + 1000 other objects in that list.

There has been much talk over the years about a better system for handling gradients. One recent proposal is discussed in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8709 Personally, I do hope the developers have it near the top of their list of priorities :D
