Hi, having a problem. Refer to the picture attached.
When you create patterns in inkscape - just say, for example, you fill a box with stripes - the stripes are still part of the object; so a box filled with stripes still only has four nodes - ie the stripes don't count as individual paths. How do I create these individual paths? Is there a way of tracing this vectorized object?
pattern, turn strokes into individual nodes
Re: pattern, turn strokes into individual nodes

Welcome to InkscapeForum!
No, you can't turn a pattern, created from Pattern button in Fill and Stroke dialog, into a path. In the case of stripes though, it's really very easy to draw them yourself (especially using a Grid and Snapping). However, then you don't have the functionality of being able to configure the stripes by rotating, making wider, closer together, etc.

Do you mean by using Path menu > Trace Bitmap? I don't know, but I'll give it a try.....ok, no, I can't get it to trace, probably because it's already in SVG format. Whether you could use Export Bitmap (creates a PNG version), then trace using Trace Bitmap, I assume that would work.
Otherwise you could trace it by hand, or as I said, draw the stripes yourself. Although I realize that other patterns would be more difficult to draw.
I'm sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you

Re: pattern, turn strokes into individual nodes
to get editable objects you need to use the tiled clones feature (P1 symmetry) and then unlink the clones.
Patterns created with tiled clones of course can be changed and configured right up until you unlink the clones ...

Your mind is what you think it is.

Tiled clones, yes!
Good one druban, I forgot all about that.
