Where to begin

Postby watermark » Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:01 am

Dear members.

I'm new here.

Having seen what people have done with inkscape, and the fact that I can't afford adobe illustrator, I would like to learn inkscape from scratch all the way to advanced level, with a special interest in logo design.

My question is, where do I start?, are there books, e-books, blogs, articles or videos that you can recommend me? and how long will it take me to master inkscape?

http://screencasters.heathenx.org is probably the best place to start!

As for the time it'll take to learn, it just depends how much you put into it. You can go from knowing nothing to getting something decent in a few days, but to become a real pro it can take months.

Post your progress on here and I'm sure there'll be people to help you out!

Also check out the tutoral blog, not updated so often now, but has a good collection of information. http://inkscapetutorials.wordpress.com/. Also check out the "other Inkscape resources" links on that site.

I was also going to say that how long it takes you to learn will depend on how much artistic knowledge you have - I probably know all the tools in Inkscape, and use it to draw diagrams / edit simple stuff, but ask me to draw something from scratch, forget it, I just don't have the artistic skill ;-)
