Handle too Dark?

Postby vixenfinder » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:58 pm

Hey all I've been trying Inkscape this week and noticed that the handles used to manipulate a path are only black. This obviously becomes an issue when working with a black background. Is it just me or is this an issue for anyone else?

Haven't you tried changing the bg color, or putting one object over another? The arrows always change their color to the "opposite" of the background they're on.

Well, I'm not sure that the handles are inverting in color because I only see two blue circles representing the end of them and the red path guide (see pic) is there a setting to turn that on?

Ah sorry I thought you were talking about the arrows that appear when object is selected.

The inverse color for some other stuff hasn't been implemented yet, here's the report https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/172063

is there a way to change the color then? I mean black is too common of a color. Perhaps red or somthing might be a bit more helpful until the issue is fixed?

In the test that I did just now, drawing a path on a black background, the circles became white and very visible. However, I know from experience, the opposite color feature doesn't always work. For example, I'm working on an image with dark green and dark purple blocks of color, and no opposite color ever appears. It's pretty darn hard to see the black handles. If I have an idea where the handles end, then I can mouseover, and they turn red. Then again, if I'm working on a red background, that mouseover effect is lost.

While we have this mouseover and opposite color features for the circles at the end of the handles, the straight line part of the handle never changes from black...that I know of. So I think your best bet is going to be temporarily changing the background color, so you can see the handles and work with them. (Or temporarily remove the color. White really is best for me.) Then when finished, simply simply change the color back.

I haven't searched to see if a wish list "bug" has been submitted for node handle color. But if temporarily changing the background color (or removing) doesn't work or is a problem for you, you're more than welcome to search and/or submit your own "bug". Please see this topic for info: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=484

All best :D
