Colouring object made from several lines

Postby tico » Mon May 18, 2009 1:03 am

Hi !

I guess that my problem is quite common in vector drawing but I haven't found any answer yet : I'm currently creating the head of a character using lines that are combined to form the shape. The problem is that I can't colour it properly : the picture on the left is the result I get, and the picture on the right is what I would like to do.

Image

I understand technicaly why I obtain this result, but is there a tool which can create a "closed" outline from my object ? If it's not the case, how can I close correctly my head shape, because the "join vertices" button doesn't work if one of the selecter vertice is not the end of a line ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tico,

Perhaps the easy way to color it would be the bucket fill tool, since the head, mouth and ear shape are open areas to be filled with the same color but closed to except a fill.

The other way I might go about doing this drawing would be to do the perimeter stroke only with the pen tool and click the last node onto the first, beginning node to close the path. Add the color.

Once done, add the lines for the (mouth) area and ear as separate strokes on top of the fill color. Lastly add the eye sockets on top.

Cheers
