Distribute relative to problem

Postby igurov » Sat Jul 14, 2012 7:43 pm

Hi all,

apparently inkscape does not respect the relative to setting when distributing centers equidistantly horizontally. I have three objects that I want to distribute equidistantly horizontally relative to the centered one. The problem is that even though I use the option relative to the First Selected and I select first the middle one, the middle one is centered between the other two. So my question is - is there a way to distribute equidistantly horizontally, say objects A, B and C around object B, so to say use it as an anchor and don't move it?

Welcome Iliya!

Yes, that's correct. The Relative To option is only for Align and not for Distribute.

I'm not sure if there may be a few ways to do what you want. For myself, I would use Distribute like you have used it, then either group the 3 objects or make a multiple selection, and center that to whatever you had the middle object centered. Would that work in your image, or are the other circumstances to consider?

The distribute commands use the two objects on the ends as anchors and equalizes the spacing of all objects between them. If you pull a guide to the object you want to be the final center or even better, do shift-g (object to guides, you can, after distributing, select all and snap that object back to the guide(s).
Your mind is what you think it is.
