CROPPING

Postby stoopidhead » Wed May 07, 2014 3:28 am

I wanted to make a logo slightly larger than the canvas so the edges of the logo would be cut off. I was unable to make that happen. I thought I followed instructions but in the end, nothing happened. Can someone please help. I'm severely dyslexic so a "step-by-step" reply would be great if possible. :)

Try this:

  1. press F1 for the object tool and window select all objects
  2. open document's properties panel (Shift+Ctrl+D)
  3. set borders around selection
  4. close panel
  5. drag a corner handle of the bounding box,
hold Shift+Ctrl, and move the cursor to resize selection

That kind of cut off is only presented outside inkscape, like opening the svg with a browser,
or if saved as a pdf, viewed with acrobat for example.

Maybe clipping would make a better usage.

  1. select all objects to be "cut"
  2. group objects together (Ctrl+G)
  3. draw a rectangle above the area you want to preserve
  4. select the group and the rectangle above
  5. set clipping at object menu
