i hope i understood you correctly
your using inkscape and you have an image that you would like to save as a *.plt file?
when it saves your getting 0 bytes and there is no data?
first is the image a vector ? if it is a raster you will not get any thing in the *.plt because there is nothing to plot.
second when i save as a plt i have to manually type in plt in the save as field. are you doing that ?
