Hello, I have made an image placeholder that looks like this
I think this is caused by the method I used to cut out the circle in the bottom right corner - I made a rectangle covering the whole canvas, made a hole in it and set it as the mask of the framed mountains. I have also tried saving the image as 'Plain SVG'.
Is there another way I can achieve the cut-out effect without using a mask?
Thanks
in Inkscape. However, when I open it in Firefox/Chromium it looks like this and when I open it in my image viewer only the small crossed circle in the bottom right corner is shown.Image not rendering properly outside of Inkscape

Re: Image not rendering properly outside of Inkscape
Hi.
I believe the masking is the crux here; after making some objects filled paths and some boolean operations it will render properly:
Cheers

Clipping would be more appropriate, for this situation. Although I don't know if clipping would have the same problem as masking.

Agree. Making as many objects into filled paths should ensure proper display across renderers.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Image not rendering properly outside of Inkscape
I have probably done the same as Polygon, but here are the steps I took for your future reference:
1 release the mask
2 select the mask and break apart
3 delete the rectangle, duplicate the circle
(Obviously these first three steps won't be necessary when starting from scratch, just draw the circle!)
4 ungroup everything by selecting all and ctrl U
(And this one would be unnecessary too, no need for groups and layers in such a straightforward drawing)
5 select the grey border and do stroke to path
6 shift select to add one of the duplicated circles then do path > difference
7 select the large mountain and the other circle and do the same
8 select the center diagonal of the "no" symbol and do stroke to path
9 shift select the ring and do path > union
That's it, 5 filled objects, no strokes, overlaps, masks, clips, layers, or groups needed.
