Dear Inkscape users,
I am trying to import a pdf graph as a background into an inkscape drawing.
My problem is that I am likely to modify that graph with new data and I would like the resulting pdf to be automatically updated into the inkscape drawing.
Actually what I want is basically to import the pdf as an external file (i.e. no conversion to svg and storage inside the inkscape file). That's the way imported bitmaps are treated, the image being just referenced by its path.
For example I know that's the way Xfig is dealing with imported eps files, but I have not succeeded in doing something similar with Inkscape, as importing a pdf automatically results in its conversion to svg and incorporation in the inkscape file.
Does anybody know how to do that?
Best regards,
Vincent

Re: import pdf (or eps) as an external file
Unfortunately it's not possible to link to an external file unless it's an image file (jpg, bmp etc..). In that case when the image is update it updates itself in Inkscape too.
For importing/embedding other file formats I've created a bug report about it, and you can read it here
