I hope I'm posting this in the right forum as I am a total newbie with regards to Inkscape--and this may not be an inkscape problem.
I'm working on a design for a business card using a png file I got from pixabay.com. I bring it into inkscape and it is outlined in black, a small amount of blue and mostly gray shading as fill. (I attached the file if anyone is interested.) When I print the image, the gray-shading is printed as pink-shading! The main lines are black and everything else that is black on the design prints as black. Because of that I don't think it is an ink problem.
I've also imported the image into other programs (powerpoint, word) and printed the page and those print out with the pink-shading also.
So my question(s) are this:
1) is there a way in Inkscape to make the image all gray-scales so it won't print pink?
2) Is there something in the vectors/png format that directs the program to display black and grays but print pink?
3) Even if I tell the printer (HP6970) to print black/white, it still prints pink. How can I get a black/white image printed?
Thanks in advance
Bill W

I'd check other images, too, and the connection to my printer, as well as the ink levels in it.
Look what you get when you print a printer test page.
If that works flawlessly, something might be wrong with your printer drivers.

Not sure if Inkscape would be able to keep colorspace metadata... Does anyone know?

All I can say about this is that printers are not automatically configured with your screen. You might need to create one or more color profiles for your screen, and then you can configure Inkscape to use it. I'm sorry that I can't tell you how to do this, or give you any resources for it. But other should have that kind of info which they can share.
(Since I don't use a printer, I've never needed to do it. But years ago, when I first started using Inkscape, I had a printer, and it never would print the exact colors that I created with Inkscape. I always had to tweak my colors by trial and error, until they printed the color I wanted. Now that I know how to fix it, I don't have a printer

Edit
Moini, I don't know about "colorspace metadata". I just know about Inkscape Preferences > Input/Output > Color Management

Re: Image on screen is gray but prints pink
The solution has been discovered!
Executive Summary: Ran print-head alignment and print-head cleaning several times.
The Rest Of the Story:
While fiddling around with the various color management settings, I ran out of one of the inks. Slapped a new cart in. Out of force of habit, I did an alignment, then another test print. It was no longer pink but it wasn't gray either. So I ran another alignment and for giggles a print-head cleaning. Another test print and "Voila!" it is now printing gray like it shows on the screen.
Thanks for all the suggestions and possible solutions. Although some of them have given me more insight into Inkscape, I'm glad it was as simple as printer maintenance.

lol, yeah
Glad it works now! Printers can be real beasts sometimes.
