DISAPPEARING SHADOWS!

Postby stoopidhead » Tue Apr 29, 2014 1:21 am

I created a logo with shadowed text. I'm thinking I may've done it the wrong way. The text has a blurred shadow under it. At first I noticed that the BLUR disappeared after I did some things to the file…. such as UNGROUPing the image. Turing the layer off and on again fixed that. I thought nothing of it. There was no problem printing the file. But when I went to my SENT folder in hotmail, to look at the images I sent to the client after pasting it in a raster program and seeing no blurred shadow, there was no blurred shadow in the images I had sent to the client! The shadow was sharp! The method I used to make the shadow was as follows:

I typed the text using the text tool.
I copied that text and pasted it over the first image.
I selected the image underneath,
and brought up the FILL AND STROKE window.
In that window, I moved the BLUR up to 1.1…

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong and how I might fix this?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

I need the image to be stable, and unchanging, no matter what I do to it!

Best to export png, rather than paste into a raster application.

Blur is a filter, and changing the group or layer (a special Inkscape group not supported in other apps) may change the filter effects.

Best to lock layers you want to protect.

Blurred shadows, gradients, large black outlines don't look professional in logos.
(I used to make those mistakes too.)
Maybe it's more typography related.

I exported a PNG to the GIMP, (a raster program). The blurred shadow did not copy! Everything else did. The only way I was even able to send the completed image to the client was to do a screen-dump of the image. Then the blurred shadow had no choice but to stay put.

So is this a bug in Inkscape? Blurred shadows won't export?

Locking the layer had no effect.

Locking layers can help reduce errors in selection/editing.

As you can see, the exported png of the test file has drop shadows on the lower lines of text. Not a bug so far.

Are you using the export feature? Twice you have used the expression "copy" as if you are copying and pasting, rather than opening an exported file.

Perhaps you can upload an example svg of the issue, the file in question or very similar would be best.
