I use Corel to generate artwork for silk-screens of front panels for electronic products.
We used to output from Corel .eps files for the fabricator to generator a silk-screen. We stopped doing that when we gained confidence that the .pdf output from Corel was accurate.
We recently sent artwork files to the fabricator. We typically send only the .pdf file. But this time we sent the .pdf and the Corel file (.cdr). The vendor got confused and decided to use the Corel file. He did not have Corel Draw but he did have Inkscape. He opened the .cdr file and generated an .eps from that and gave it to the silk-screener. Unfortunately he didn't notice that the file was missing some text. I believe it was because he did not have the font. The real problem is that Inkscape did not warn him that the font was missing. I have recreated this problem and see it with my install of Inkscape.
I have since learned that in Corel when I am saving the file I can use an Include Fonts option. Corel calls it a TrueDoc format. That should become part of our practice when saving the Corel files. But I am surprised that Inkscape does not give a Warning when it doesn't have the font.
No missing font warning
Re: No missing font warning
With my version thet text does not disappear (but a default font is used)
Re: No missing font warning
this has been fixed in beta versions
Committed to trunk as r11522.
By default this warning dialog is not shown.
Can be turned on in the Preference dialog : Tools->Text->"Show font substitution warning dialog"

Re: No missing font warning
I see this disappearing text and no warning about it on both 0.47, and I just downloaded 0.48.3.1 r9886 and also have disappearing text and no warning.
You mention that it "Can be turned on in the Preference dialog : Tools->Text->"Show font substitution warning dialog"" I don't see the Show font substitution warning dialog option in either version. Is that check box there and i am missing it? Or are you implying that it will be there in a beta?

AFAIK r9886 is the latest stable version. The dialog only ships with (beta) r11522.
go to http://inkscape.org/download/ jump to Development Versions.
For windows that redirects you to http://www.oss-marketplace.com/index.ph ... versionen/ where there's no version r11522.
But there's a download labelled 'aktuellste Version / latest build '. It should be there.
