How to make a dashed line swirl

Postby sra9600 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 6:14 am

I have not used inkscape very much but I need to be able to make a line swirl with a circle, using dashed lines not circles. Something like a bee or airplane trail.
PLEASE help me :D

In the fill and stroke dialog box (object menu) you can set the stroke style to be dashed.
if by swirl you mean a spiral, Inkscape has a spiral tool that has many parameters to give you the exact spiral you need. ou can then give it a dashed stroke. Other, more precise and time consuming methods exist (pattern on path) but this should give you a start.

Your mind is what you think it is.

Oh, I'm such a big fan of spiro splines for making swirly lines. You can do this with the Pen tool, and I think also the Pencil tool. I would suggest consulting Help menu > Inkscape manual, and then use the Index to find "spiro splines". After you've made a swirl that you like, convert it to path (Path menu > Object to Path), then use Fill and Stroke > Stroke Style tab to convert to dashes.

Or you could simply use the Pen or Pencil tool to draw a swirly/curvy line, then again, convert to dashes.

Thank you! I sort of figured it out, your explanation helped me even more.
