Welcome to the forum!

It might be hard to say, without knowing anything more about the file. Has it been converted from another format, or otherwise what's the history? Assuming that it has not been converted to paths, the best bet would be to use Inkscape's Text tool. Although I suspect that's what you've been trying to do. If you select it with the Node tool, do you see nodes? (tiny gray diamonds and/or squares) If so, then the text has somehow been converted to a path, and will not be editable as text.

Hello brynn,
Yes, the situation is exactly as you wrote. If I select text with Node, I can see the nodes.
This file was just saved in Corel X4, then I opened it with Inkscape.
Is it possible to convert path to text? Or should I re-save this CDR somehow from X4?

No, if it's already a path, it can't be converted back into editable text. Unfortunately, I get really confused about all the different graphics formats, and which ones preserve which Inkscape features, and under which conditions, and which don't. I do know that CDR is a vector format, but I don't know if Corel also produces raster formats. If the Corel program can save as or export SVG, that would probably be the best option. If that can't be done, it's still possible to get the text into Inkscape, probably. Maybe saving as PDF?

But no worries, there are other members here who understand all that stuff, and can offer you some suggestions, if Corel can't Save As or export SVG :D

Brynn,
Thanks for the answer.
I discovered that CDR saved from X4 opens normally in Inkscape if CDR saved with option "Save text as images" (not "Save text as curves"). Such files can be easily opened and text can be edited in Inkscape. But... after saving in Inkscape (as SVG) they looks bad in X4 (a lot of mistakes). I will try saving in other formats - maybe, X4 will open saved SVG normally...
Sorry for my bad English))

So doesn't this solve your problem? If you can choose that option and save as CDR, and you can open in Inkscape and edit text, why do you need to try other formats? Perhaps I misunderstand?

Saving CDR with "Save text as images" solves my problem) But another problem appears - files edited and saved in Inkscape looks bad in X4. I must solve this.

Ok, I'm confused.
The CDR file (which is a Corel Draw file) has text in it, and you can't edit the text in Corel X4? You'll have to forgive me, I'm not familiar with Corel products. So you're using Inkscape to edit the text, but you need to use the SVG in Corel X4 later, after editing the text? If I'm guessing correctly, then how did the text get into the CDR file, if Corel X4 can't edit it (or apparently create it)?

In what way does the SVG "look bad".
