Hi everyone!
I'm quite new on this topic, but I've downloaded some vector graphics that I need to separate from each other as I only need one of the several objects for my website. The file is in eps-format, and I can't make inkscape open this file. I've been trying to look for answers on the net and read something about importing the file in pdf-format instead. As there actually was a pdf-file included in the zip-package I tried to import this one in inkscape, which worked fine. However I'm not able to do anything with the objects or split them inside inkscape. Am I missing something or is this the only way to do it? Is there any other way of opening and editing an eps-file without Illustrator, or a way of converting eps to an inkscape-compatible format?

Re: Opening .eps in Inkscape?!
Install Scribus. Drag-n-drop your eps file onto your Scribus desktop icon. In Scribus export as svg. Open that in Inkscape. Do cartwheels.
Re: Opening .eps in Inkscape?!
Hmm, I tried to install Scribus but the program told me I needed something called Ghostscript in order to open .eps. So thats the next problem - I can't figure out how to install ghostscript on a Mac. Is there an easy way of doing this or like a guide or something? I'm totally lost..
Thanks a lot!

Re: Opening .eps in Inkscape?!
You can grab ghostscript from sourceforge but maybe a mac binary would be easier. Quick google search:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/9980/gpl-ghostscript
After you have that you'll need to open scribus and point it to your ghostscript directory...then you should be good to go.

Found this quick and easy solution on a Mac:

Just open the EPS files in Preview and export as PDFs, all objects remain intact.

Opening and saving as a PDF from Preview makes the file's layers void and the vector is gone...
