help with cutlines

Postby wynpotter » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:51 am

I have been learning Inkscape for awhile now and have a question on print and cut.
I can vectorize a jpeg then clean it up for an outline with no fill.
Do I need to define a cutline color for the outline for a cutter or how is this done to be able to print a heat transfer then send it to a cutter that will cut around the object in inkscape.
I think I'm close but can not find a tut on this.
Thanks Wyndham

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

I think it depends on the cutter (hardware) and the software it uses. I know I've seen with some cutter/plotters, where the lines had to be a certain color. On color will cut the line, and another color just kind of scratches the line. I think that was on a woodcutter kind of machine though.

I think for the home/craft type of cutters, for most or all of them, it doesn't matter about the color. Since I don't use, and have never even seen one (except for pictures) I don't really know. I have to say I've been curious how the machine knows which line to cut though. Obviously, some lines are just drawn, and not cut. But I don't know how it knows which line to cut on. I should read up on that one of these days, lol.
