TraceColorsDiminishing

Postby Jason Nail » Tue Apr 12, 2011 1:49 am

Hello.

I've found tracing loses some flair as far as colors. (see attached) I tried more saturation from the ext>color drop down but get the wrong colors to saturate. Anybody know a better color preserving &/or enhancing technique? I am about to try prepping the original with more flair and then tracing. I will report back here.

Thank you very much! Jaso

Hi Jaso,
What are you using to trace? Because for Inkscape's Trace Bitmap, that's really an excellent result!
Actually Inkscape's Trace Bitmap is not meant to reproduce photos. I can't explain why, but it would be really awesome if it could!
I'm thinking it might not be so much the color not coming through properly, than it is just the lack of detail, and the obscurity caused by it. But I really don't understand these things very well. I'm sure others will have more info about it :D

I'm finding ways to make InkScape trace photo's. I'm still prepping this picture for trace using the GIMP. First, I tried colors independently. Now, I'm trying each object in the picture separately. I will give full explanations and results as soon as I've completed prepping. OK. Thank you very much! Jaso

OK. GFlare in the GIMP is making wonderful corrections. It appears InkScape is making trace decisions based on geometry and colors. I'm getting marvelous results by working on smaller sections at a time and using layers. I'd say some node work and piecing the picture back together will make a great result!

Its only a question of time and money. How much time will I continue to put into this picture for no money! LOL It's become a way of life. I'm always working on it. It's been quite the learning experience. I will begin posting finished results soon.

Thank you very much! Jaso
