Greetings,
I need to arrange vertically aligned (i.e. upright) around a circular path. I know how to have text follow a path but I can only get such text to align normally to the path (i.e. text at the 9 o'clock position on a circle is sideways, not upright) but that is not what I need. Think of the way numbers/text is typically arranged around a panel know, for example. Is there any way to do that in Inkscape - other than just doing it completely by hand?
Thanks! (And please be kind - I am not a graphics designer and don't have any experience with vector graphics tools like this. I am an EE who literally drew the short straw and wound up having to do the panel graphics for a one-off device.)
Is it possible to arrange all-upright text on a circular path? If so How?

It can be done but in every case it would be much faster to do it by hand, especially for a novice, no unkindness intended. And the results of using an automated procedure would be more unpredictable - you would have to go back and redo it several times to get the precision you could get with manual positioning

If each text element is a separate object, the Object > Arrange dialog can do the trick in recent releases of Inkscape. Turn the circle into an arc by using the handles to open a gap, then select the arc and the numbers before opening the dialog. Use the Polar Coordinates tab, and turn off the "Rotate Objects" option. Job done (though some manual tweaking may be required).

Oh yeah the new arrange is very nice definitely the way to go if you don't want to keep text editable, and the knob scale extension is nice, I can see a good use for it in blender

To clarify, the text objects remain as text objects and are still editable. It's just that they have to be separate objects so you have to edit each one individually, rather than dealing with a single string.

I think reading the OP which sounds like an electronic device with writing around a dial or knob, your solution is going to be the right method, but yes, I meant text string, not text letters

The Knob Scale Generator extension linked by polygon above works great for about 75% of what I need. For the rest I'll try using the "arrange" tool and/or just doing it by hand. Thanks so much for all the replies and suggestions!
