Help with saving as PDF (specs included)

Postby bcthedes » Fri Dec 20, 2013 5:38 am

Hi guys! So I've been doing so well with learning new stuff on Inkscape for the past year an a half, even when I get stuck, there are enough videos or info here and there to get by. But it seems I have finally hit a wall. So I make designs as usual, but this one now needs to be saved as a PDF. When I go through the options to save it as a pdf it doesnt give. I get an error message. And Even when it has seemingly saved a few times, when I open it up in adobe its blank. So please if you can guide me in the right direction to get this done it will be great.

Below are the specs as requested needed for this document. Is there any way to meet these specs AND save as a PDF in Inkscape? Im also attaching the Document.

"Acceptable formats in order of preference: 300 dpi PDF format with all fonts embedded (containing no color or JPEG data); Adobe Illustrator saved for a PC with the fonts created as out lines; Adobe Photoshop saved at a high resolution of 300 dpi, JPG,or TIFF; PC/Adobe In Design CS4; PC/QuarkXpress
7.0; Mac/InDesign CS4; Mac/QuarkXpress 7.0. Include all screen and printer fonts with page layout documnts(InDesign or QuarkXpress). Conventional mat
erials are not accepted(film, camera-ready, etc.). Because of professional printer specifications, ads built in word-processing software such as Publisher, Microsoft Word, Works, or Word Perfect cannot be accepted"

Hi.

The specs says first the most preferred solution is a pdf with no jpeg data, which means you oreferably don't embed any raster part to the pdf.
That includes: no imported raster images, no raster images used as a fill pattern, and most importantly no raster based filters -like blurring.
Wondering if you leave out those, how the saving as pdf didn't wok for you.
Or did it -did you try to open the pdf in inkscape and see what's inside it?
Are you using an enermous amount of objects/defs sections that is resulting in rendering issues?
Possibly not.
Or you might just set the exporting area incorrectly.

Can you upload the svg to see if others can save it as a pdf?

here it is. it says too large to upload on the forum.

Its more like I get a error message on Inkscape. As if the ability to actually do pdf doesnt work. I have the latest version. Im not sure if it will work, but in the mean time I just had the file converted with an online converter. It now OPENS in adobe, and everything looks fine, but Im not sure until I hear back from the printer.

You used flowed texts, which is rendered right only through inkscape.
Convert them to paths by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C.
You can also (auto)trace the raster image too, and delete the unnecessary parts outside the page borers to shrink file size.
