i'd like to create for my D&D crew (yes, i'm a nerd!) a map like this:
http://www.unreal-fantasy.pl/gfx/wfrpma ... ne-map.jpg
This is my very first project and i'd like to start learning with it.
Thank you for your patient and your time.
Help to create a fantasy map needed
Re: Help to create a fantasy map needed
There's no single "right" way to do this, but here's how I would proceed.
1. Outline your poplulated area using
or
or
.
2. Outline the major streets and divisions of your town, again using
or
or
, although for this step I'd recommend
.
3. Draw your basic building roof shape with a few variations. You can do this freehand using
or
or
or by using
with a few edits after the basic shape is made.
4. Duplicate your buildings to fill the major divisions of your town in a pleasing array. You could do this with the clone tool, which would make editing later a bit easier, but would be more complicated to explain at this point.
5. Add the park shapes.
6. Add the legend and title using
7. Roll for +20 inkscape experience.

Here's a link to an older request for the same thing. Maybe more helpful info?
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4346&start=0
Also, in the Finished Inkscape forum, a couple other maps, just to see what Inkscape can do.

And here, one of our members makes a hobby of....well, I wouldn't call it map-making exactly, but fantasy world creatoing....or something?
http://www.enderra.com/blog/
Maybe a good place to pick up some ideas?
Also please check out the links and info in my signature for some helful instructional materials ( for Inkscape).
All best

Re: Help to create a fantasy map needed
Some good suggestions.
I'll (once again) drop a pitch for www.cartographersguild.com as THE place to go on the intertubes for fans of fantasy mapmaking!
(discaimer.... I'm not just a member, not even just a community leader... I'm now a co-admin there...)

Re: Help to create a fantasy map needed
Yeah I dabble in world mapping - drawing maps for various world building projects. I am hardly a pro, and I am not on the InkscapeForums on a daily basis, but by all means, if anybody wants to talk mapping projects, do get in touch with me. My latest map is one of earth btw: http://enderra.com/2011/06/25/earth-2174-final/
As an aside, please note I've cleaned up my websites' structure, you'll want to go to http://enderra.com directly.
And I will second the suggestion of joining the Cartographers' Guild - awesome site for mapping, very helpful community. I'm a member there, too.
