Hi!
I'm pretty new to using Inkscape so please have some patience. I'm designing front plates for audio recording/processing equipment on a hobby basis. The plan is to layout some text and shapes for cutouts that will be sent to a guy with a CNC milling machine.
My one concern so far that i have not been able to find an aswer to is how to center objects around its X/Y coordinates. When i give a marked object a X or Y value i want it to center around this coordinate. This way i would have several objects of different sizes and shapes centered around the same precise position.
Is this possible? Seems like a rather simple setting to me but i just can't find it.
How to center shapes around its X/Y coordinates?
Re: How to center shapes around its X/Y coordinates?
You can create a square, circle or a dot at the place where you want your center to be (position them calculating their widths, heights and coordinates), turn on snapping to object centers and snap other objects to it or use the Align and Distribute dialogue to align them to the reference object.
Maybe you can first create all objects, select them all and center horizontally and vertically using the Align and Distribute dialogue.

just hand over the chocolate and nobody gets hurt

Re: How to center shapes around its X/Y coordinates?
Thanks! I'll try that.

Alternatively, you can create horizontal and vertical guides, move them to the desired X/Y coordinates by entering the numbers, and then snap the center of the objects to the intersection of the guides. Or, create a guide intersection at your origin, snap the centers of each object to that intersection, and apply a specific X/Y translation to move the objects to the desired coordinates
