keep pencil width fixed

Postby rjawad » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:13 pm

Hello,
I've been using inkscape for marking up documents. I use the pencil tool, for example, to draw a straight line. When I resize the line using the selector tool, the line width automatically changes. When I make the line shorter, the width shrinks. When I make the line longer, the width increases.

What I would like is for the stroke width to remain fixed when resizing the line.
I went to preferences, transform, and unchecked the box "scale stroke width". I thought that would do the trick, but didn't notice any difference, even after restarting inkscape.

Is there a way to fix the stroke width once I select it in the "fill and stroke" panel, so that when I resize the line, the width remains the same?

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Yeah, you're right. Unchecking the Scale stroke width setting should have fixed the problem. But I've had some issues with changing settings, where every time I opened Inkscape, I would have to change it again. Until I did a restart of the computer. (This was in vv 0.47)

Beyond that, I couldn't venture a guess....? So maybe try a restart.

To make the Pencil stroke width the same every time:
- Make a sample line with the pencil, select it, and change it to the width you want.
- Open Inkscape Preferences, go to the Pencil tool, and under "Create new objects with:", choose "This tool's own stryle"
- Next click the bar that says "Take from selection".

Also, while you're in the Pencil tool in Inkscape Prefs, uncheck "Average all sketches". Then restart, and that should do it (cross fingers, lol).

thanks for the help.
actually i just tried it again, since starting up my computer this morning and now it works. i didn't change anything, so you must be right about the computer restart.
