Path - Division - Without stroke?

Postby TheMonkeysaur » Wed Oct 18, 2017 9:07 pm

I am trying to create a shadow effect using Path>Division, but I can't work out how to do this without using a stroke since one of the selected objects is using it.

I am following this tutorial @ 43 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTMgIFlEnSk

Somehow this guy has stroke turned off when doing the path-division, but when I select both objects path turns on, and if I turn it off it effects the selected objects.

The result is that I can only seem to achieve one of the following:

I guess really need to create the division without creating the path, if that makes sense.

Thanks for any help.

Hi.
He didn´t used a stroke on the base shape - just the fill - doubled it - gave a light color fill and used dynamic offset to shrink it down till a decent contour appears - converted object to path (shift+cmd+C) - doubled shape - drag to left - add shape to selection and make Boolean difference for the shadow object.

Cheers

Ok, that explains it, it's nearly impossible to see what he is doing exactly, but thanks, I followed what you said and got it working, thanks for your help!

I had to download the video and scrub through the footage for a closer inspection.
But laying out as he does is pretty straight forward because you have:
1. base shape (contour)
2. base color object
3. transparent shadow object which will change accordingly when you change base color value
