python 4 the uninitiated

Postby yoelf22 » Tue Sep 02, 2014 11:53 pm

Hello again;

Extensions >> Render >> Printing Marks invokes the enlightening message:

"The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python-lxml"

Admittedly, my python scripting capabilities amount to none.

Working with Mac OS 10.9.4, I have downloaded and installed Python (Python launcher Version 3.4.1)
I also downloaded and extracted lxml-3.3.6

I have a rather minimal X11 installed, so no package manager.

Your advice, gentlefolk?

Thanks advanced,

Yoel

That error message has been addressed a few times in this forum. Unfortunately, I can't remember the answer, and don't use MAC. Try searching the forum (using the error message for search terms). Or maybe the answer is here: http://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/ Look for FAQ #3.17 MAC specific issues.

Please download and install the latest Mac OS X package Inkscape 0.48.5 from inkscape.org.

A known issue (extensions failing on OS X Lion and later versions of OS X) with the prior package (0.48.2) has been fixed with the new Mac OS X package of the recent 0.48.5 bug-fix release.

Note: It is not required (nor would it help) to install lxml yourself.
