Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie using inkscape and have watching and reading tutorials to get started with some simple designs.
I made a simple button and exported as .png and it looks fine when I view it in windows photo viewer but when I imported to another software (Siemens WinCC) to use it there it has a triangle around it which is undesirable. I also noticed that when I moved the button to the desktop it looks like it has that triangle around it though it is almost transparent, but it's there. How do I remove that triangle altogether?
Thanks
Kal

Re: How do I remove the rectangle around this bitmap?
Please upload or share a link to the svg and png files, so they can be examined.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Sorry, I don't get what you mean by the triangle. I can't find one... (assuming you mean the bottom START button).
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Re: How do I remove the rectangle around this bitmap?
I'm assuming you mean the corners extending beyond the round edge of the Start button. There are two possible reasons for this:
1) They are present in the PNG file. This could happen if you added a background rectangle behind the button in Inkscape before you exported, or if you used Save As > Cairo PNG. In this case you should remove the background (if present), and use File > Export PNG Image (or File > Export Bitmap on older versions of Inkscape). That option exports transparent PNGs, whereas the Cairo PNG option does not.
2) The Siemens software simply does not support transparent PNGs. I'm not familiar with that particular software, but have experienced that problem with other graphical UI layout tools in the past. In this case there's nothing you can do, other than try to add a background rectangle of the same colour as the background the button will be sitting on.
When viewing the PNG, make sure you use a viewer or editor that shows transparent areas clearly (usually with a checkerboard pattern). I don't know if Windows Photo Viewer does that, but if not it could be misleading you into thinking the background is transparent when it's not.

Re: How do I remove the rectangle around this bitmap?
Thanks everyone. Yes it's a rectangle not a triangle, my mistake. Also I found out that Siemens software applied a background color to the rectangle when I add the button and I can make that transparent but the rectangle still shows up which is undesirable.
I tried to export in a variety of way but I always get the rectangle. I am using inkscape version 0.92

There is a filtered object with 56% opacity that I would try removing to see if it's causing the rectangle.

Re: How do I remove the rectangle around this bitmap?
In fact I would go further than TD's suggestion: I would start with a new document and just put a single circle in it with a flat colour. Export that and see if you still get the rectangle. If you do, then it suggests the issue is with the Siemens software; if you don't then you know it's with your file.
