Permanently block posts containing keyword in subject line.

Postby ragstian » Mon Mar 24, 2014 4:27 pm

Hi.

After moderation of first post stopped I have not failed to notice the number of spam posts containing "Kitchen" in the headline.
Any way to set up a permanent rule to block those automatically?
Guess if I would ever use the mentioned companies for my future kitchen upgrades?

Filtering spam via "kitchen" keyword can be problematic. Consider the following example thread titles that have a good chance of being legitimate:

"My first drawing: a kitchen knife"
"Help with highlights -- kitchen utensils"
"Remodeling: suggest patterns for my kitchen tiles"

A rule that automatically blocks the 'kitchen' keyword will also remove potentially valid threads from real members.

Not only that, but kitchen spam is only part of the 'moderation queue-less' forum "experience." We can expect spam posts the likes of movies, streaming sites, shoe and clothing, horoscope, et al. in the future.
Wrongfully banned in March 2014. All my posts prior to this date were unceremoniously removed. I was told there was supposed to be in a backup somewhere. Still waiting for my old posts to be restored (more likely it's hello bit bucket).

After we tried no moderation for new post why not try the no moderation for banning.

Each post reported should be hidden immediatly until a moderator says it was legit.

Just buy a kitchen already! Then they'll go away.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

P.S.

So a filter list is generated that has the common words used in undesirable posts. Those posts are held back.

The FAQ tells legitimate users the words to avoid if they want their posts to show.

Just thinking out loud...

I`m pretty much sure I saw somewhere, here on the forum, that twice reported posts of these spamBots (triangle with "!") results in their automatic exclusion. Does it works or not? If so, it`s not a big deal for us to check these and report - it takes only two reports to keep the forum clean - and first-comers would be spared of first post approval, right? Could it be that I`m the only one who saw that info about reporting? ,)))

After all, there are more seasons to come ,)

Hi.
Maestral ;

I noticed that as well and have reported the "kitchen" posts. I get a message that it's reported already (which means there are at least two reports) but the message persists.

Agree. When a reply is reported the first time, it goes to a list of reported messages that can be viewed by a moderator/admin. Since the reported message is now already on the list, other users won't be able to report the same message again unless or until an admin/mod closes or deletes the report. IINM this is how phpBB handles reported messages.

I apologise for my lack of effort in handling and preventing spam.

I was mistaken that reported posts would be hidden--I mis-understood the setting. It would be a useful setting to have.

I have made some tweaks, so hopefully you will see less.
