inkscape and roland sv12

Postby hardworkingmom » Wed Feb 17, 2010 5:27 am

I am having trouble cutting with my roland sv12 using inkscape, it only seems to cut part of the image, less than 10% and just leaves out the rest, I have tried saving as an eps file and reopening with the software provided but it will not open the file just says there is an error.
Please help!

Welcome hardworkingmom!

I'm not all that familiar with these cutting machines. But if the problem is in Inkscape, I'm sure we can sort it out.

Please open your Inkscape image. Then File menu > Document Properties. On the Page tab, in the bottom, left corner, is there a checkmark in "Show page border"? If not, put one there, and close the dialog. Now look at your image. Does all of the image fall inside the border? If this is the problem, you will see that the 10% of the image that's getting cut falls inside the border, and the part that's not getting cut falls outside the border.

To fix it, please Select your entire image (that you want cut), and open the Doc Prop dialog again. Around the middle of the window, toward the bottom, is a bar that says "Fit page to selection". Click that, and the page borders will automatically be adjusted to perfectly fit around your image. Now, the machine should cut out the whole image.

However, if all of your image already fits inside the border, we'll have to look for another problem. Have you done any Cut, Copy and/or Paste? Have you broken paths and reconnected them? There are other things, that I think could cause the problem you describe. But before I launch into descriptions and instructions, please let me know about the page border.

Hi Brynn
Everything does fit into the page border. The picture is one I have taken from the clipart gallery in inskape and reworked into a single vector line image, it's actually an alien with a dotty body. When I try to draw it I only get about 3 or 4 dots and nothing else. I have managed to print a variety of other pics today, but still no luck on this one.
Thanx for your help.

I saw your other message about signcut, and it reminded me about this topic. Somehow I missed your last reply here. Before we try to troubleshoot the signcut issue, I'm not convinced we can't fix this original one.

So you took the image from Open Clip Art Library, and edited from there? Did you use layers, hide anything, or use any kind of transparency? Did you do any clipping or masking? You know it might be better in this case, if you could upload your SVG file, so that we can examine it, rather than ask questions blindly.

I'm not sure if uploads are allowed in this forum....I think they are. But if not, start a new topic in the Help with Inkscape forum, and provide a link to this topic. Then attach your SVG file there.
